I am currently working on my PhD at Oregon State in glacial geomorphology in regards to paleoclimate. I received my undergraduate degree from George Mason University in Fairfax, VA, and grew up in the Washington, DC area. Cutting my geologic teeth on the Appalachian Mountains of the east coast, I now find myself in a whole new terrain trying to learn as much about my new home as I did my past. I have an interest in all aspects of geology and hopefully will get to explore them all on this blog at one point or another.

I enjoyed reading your observations and learning a little about geology. I particularly like the passion you put into your studies. Rock on!
I’m seeing a geologic Stephen Jay Gould in the making! (Was MetaGrayWhacke an 80s LA punk band?)
Your writing is impeccable and I can’t wait for your first entry after you stumble across a dinosaur fossil in one of your treks!
“Big Daddy Cirque near Doo Lough” – With such a name, there should be a song written about this cirque.
“The famous D3 folds fold in Connemara” – These are amazing. I’ve seen pics of tight folds before, but here the pattern is so beautiful. Only nature could craft something like this.
I’m trying to catch up on all your adventures in Ireland. What a great experience for you. Your pictures and comments are truly appreciated by this old earth science teacher. Hopefully you haven’t gone to Switzerland yet. Al and I had a chance to visit southern Germany near Konstanz. We travelled along the Bodensee to Austria and Switzerland. One of our favorite days was our trip to Schaffhausen to see Rheinfalls. It’s definitely worth it if your anywhere nearby.
Aaron. Can you tell me why it no snows in Florida? Thank you.
